Witness it in action...

Our Arts Learning Framework outlines our pedagogical foundation, built upon four established educationalwhich intertwine meaningfully with arts learning:

  1. National Core Arts Standards: This set defines the specific abilities students should attn through high-quality arts education. It offers discrete outcomes that outline excellence across disciplines and age groups. Initiated by a coalition of educators, artists, academics, policymakers, and practitioners in 2015, it's now managed by State Education Agency Directors for Arts Education.

  2. Universal Design for Learning UDL: A framework guiding inclusive teaching and learning development based on scientific insights into learning processes. It features guidelines that can be applied across any discipline to ensure accessibility and meaningful participation in all learners. Developed by CAST, a non-profit education research organization, this framework evolved from the Universal Design movement following the Americans with Disabilities Act.

  3. Social and Emotional Learning SEL: As defined by CASEL, SEL is through which individuals acquire and apply knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop personal growth, manage emotions, achieve goals, empathize with others, build supportive relationships, and make informed decisions. It's important to acknowledge that various scholars and educators have developed the concepts behind SEL over time; we choose CASEL for its clarity and widespread recognition.

  4. Culturally Responsive Teaching: Gloria Ladson-Billings introduced this concept as a pedagogy recognizing the significance of incorporating students' cultural to all aspects of learning.

At Arts for Learning Connecticut, our teaching artists undergo trning in the Arts Learning Framework, and we collaborate with leading educational research institutions across the nation to continuously refine our to better serve students.
